Weekly Hardware Price Guide - Motherboards & Memory: July 2002 3rd Edition
by Purav Sanghani on July 22, 2002 2:04 AM EST- Posted in
- Guides
For this weeks price guides we have compiled a list of prices for motherboards and memory for today's processors. For those of you not familiar with the guides here is a brief overview on how we construct them:
We select vendors to appear in our Price Guides based on two requirements: solid consumer feedback and having the lowest possible pricing. You'll notice that these vendors aren't paying us to be listed here; we do not accept requests to be listed here. We have tried to eliminate vendors with low feedback rating, but we do encourage you to do your own research before purchasing from any of these vendors.
With the new and improved Price Guides we have not only increased our standards when evaluating online vendors, but we have also partnered up with our friends at CNet to offer yet another service to you all. Using CNet's Shopper.com search engine we can provide you with an additional pool of vendors to search from that are checked up on by CNet. You can wade through those results by clicking on the CNet Pricing link in the second to last column on the right.
If there are any problems with the guide or a vendor's pricing changes dramatically then be sure to email the author listed at the top of the page and we'll take appropriate action. Remember that although some vendors may be cheaper, we only list those with generally positive feedback from a decent number of consumers. As usual, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions feel free to email us or post in the AnandTech Forums.
Also be sure to check out AnandTech's Hot Deals Forum for even more great Motherboards, Memory and other technology buys.
Disclaimer
AnandTech does not endorse any vendor listed in the following
price guide. AnandTech does not sell positions on the Price Guide. AnandTech
nor any of the vendors listed in this guide guarantee the prices presented in
the following pages.
This Week
As usual, if you have any reports of incorrect prices please
feel free to email us with the name of the vendor and the product/price that
appears incorrectly on their website. This will help us produce a more useful
guide in the future.
This week, prices on most of the motherboards we have listed have remained pretty much in the same range as the last guides.
As for memory, prices on DDR memory continue to rise, this time almost all of the listed chips have risen by double digits while none have decreased in price. RDRAM has not had as bad a rise in prices but those chips have not had price cuts either.
Go ahead and take a look at this week's changes in prices for the most popular boards along with the top brands in desktop memory...

The prices on the KT333 chipset motherboards look better this week than the last guides. Prices have decreased greatly on the MSI MS-6380E motherboards from $77 to $65. Following its lead is the $4 price cut on the Gigabyte GA-7VRX series boards from $75 while not too far behind is the $3 drop on the ECS K7VTA3 v3.1 which is now at $65. The rest of the boards remain at the price level from the last Motherboard & Memory price guides.

Prices for Intel chipset based CPUs this week have changed very little in the past two weeks. The greatest change is held by the MSI MS-6545 Pro 5 with the Intel 850 chipset at a $21 price cut. Following it is the Epox EP-4T2A3 at a rise of $14 which is a huge increase from $125 on the last motherboard & memory guides. Most of the others on the charts have either changed by only a few dollars or have not shifted at all.

Apart from the Abit NV7M prices have barely changed from the last guides. Hopefully, the new nForce2 chipsets will bring a downward shift in prices for the base nForce motherboards along with its new features.

This week we have added three new boards with the SiS 745 chipset. With some upgraded features from the earlier SiS chipsets, these boards seem to be fairly priced. The only board on the charts this week that has changed in price is the ECS K7SEM carrying the 730 series chipset.

In a wicked turn of events DDR memory prices have gone bad! None of the twelve chips listed on this chart have dropped in price. As you can see, most of the prices have soared to $15-$62 from the last guides. The lowest increase has been with Samsung's 512MB of PC1600 memory, while the greatest is held by Corsair's 512MB of PC2400 chips.
